Old Vine Zinfandel (OVZ) is a variety of grape that results in a dry red wine. OVZ is supposed to come from vines that are old, at least 25 years old but hopefully more than 40 years old as the age of the vine is key to getting the deep flavor associated with it. It produces a very intense flavor, one that you will immediately notice. You'll quickly get that you are drinking something that has a flavor profile you've not experienced before. It is full-bodied and spicey and packed with alcohol. You'll either fall in love with it or you'll run away as fast as you can. Me, I like it, but only in small doses. But this is no happy hour wine, it is best when consumed with food. Red meat and cheese are the best companions with this wine.
